Free instruction on riding semi-automatic motorcycles is usually provided. Note that while these bikes may be advertised as not requiring a license, local traffic police may still enforce regulations.

Indonesian and Thai licenses are generally not recognized. However, motorbikes with engines up to 50cc and electric scooters with power up to 4 kW (and a speed limit of 50 km/h) can be operated without a license. Fines for riding without a valid license can be significant, ranging from 2 million to 8 million VND. Renting from unlicensed private individuals is not recommended due to potential legal issues and high penalties.

If stopped by police without proper documentation, both the rider and the rental agency can face penalties, including fines and potential jail time for the agency. Even with a 50cc motorbike, riders may still be subject to police checks and fines.

Renting 50cc scooters is the only legal option for tourists without a motorcycle license. Police checks occur, and bribes are common but risky.
