Examples: a 5-hour river trip for two cost 1000 RUB; swimming with and releasing turtles was free by accessing the beach through a guesthouse; visiting the architect's museum or Galle was done by tuk-tuk for flexibility; Kandy theatre tickets were inexpensive when purchased directly 3 hours prior. Beach umbrellas and loungers are free if ordering from a cafe. Similarly, 5-star hotel pools can be accessed for free by dining at their restaurant (without towel service). Safari tours are significantly cheaper if booked through a guesthouse for a multi-day stay, which often includes good meals.

Other vendors like scrap metal collectors or fish sellers typically do not use music and may rely on verbal announcements. These audio patterns are consistent across the island, though specific vendor habits can vary by town.

Rain is infrequent, so an umbrella is more useful for sun protection. Clothing should be light and breathable. In the central highlands, temperatures can be cooler, requiring warmer layers. Mosquito protection is advisable as not all hotels provide comprehensive insect control; travelers should bring their own repellents.
