When crossing from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan, alternatives to the busy Korday border crossing include Chaldybar or Tokmok. If Chaldybar is congested, Korday might be an option. Travel via Talas is also suggested but requires more planning.

Common border crossings from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan: Kordai (busy), Kegen (8:00-17:00, seasonal), and Aukatty/Sortobe (24/7, generally less crowded). Vehicle insurance can be purchased immediately upon entering Kyrgyz territory.

For crossing the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan border, the Auhatty checkpoint is often faster than the main Korday crossing. During summer, extreme heat (40-50 degrees Celsius) makes daytime city exploration uncomfortable, suggesting travel and border crossings are best scheduled for evenings or nights. Reduced tourist numbers in summer might potentially lead to shorter waiting times.

The Kegen border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan is often preferred over the Kordai/Bishkek route due to faster processing times, smoother road conditions, and more scenic views.
