Local SIM card purchase

Avoid purchasing local SIM cards at airports, as they may have pre-used data or activation issues. Recommended alternatives: e-SIM services (if the device supports it) or pre-purchased international travel SIMs (e.g., M8, Airalo, etc.) bought before arrival.

SIM card prices in Egypt can vary. Some travelers report no significant difference between airport and city prices. However, others claim better deals in city markets; for example, a 25GB Orange SIM might cost $10 in a Sharm el Sheikh market, while the airport price was $18. It's advisable to compare prices if possible.

For travelers in Egypt, consider using an eSIM or a local SIM card for connectivity. If you plan multiple trips with the same phone, an eSIM or a pre-purchased local SIM is cost-effective. For single-trip use, purchase a local SIM card at the airport or an official service provider store. Ensure the SIM is installed, activated, and the balance is checked before leaving the point of sale. Local SIMs are generally cheaper and more convenient than international roaming plans.

Recommended mobile internet options in Egypt: 1. Local SIM cards (Orange is a popular choice). Buying in official city shops is usually cheaper (approx $17) than at the airport. 2. eSIM is often more reliable for recurring trips. 3. Hotel Wi-Fi is frequently unstable; mobile data is essential. 4. Be aware that using local physical SIMs can sometimes lead to connectivity issues with incoming SMS verification codes in future trips.

Purchasing an Egyptian SIM card can be cost-effective for registering with AI services like Claude, as it allows access to region-specific pricing that may be more advantageous than in other countries. The SIM card should function normally in Russia, but it's advisable to confirm roaming capabilities or check for potential restrictions.
