High-speed train ticket booking

Official booking for Chinese trains is handled via the 12306.cn site or app. Secondary aggregators like Trip.com are reliable as they connect to the 12306 system. If tickets are 'sold out' on the official platform, they are unavailable. Suggestion: Buy through-tickets via major hubs, and note that minor name field variations (First/Last name order) on tickets do not typically prevent boarding.

High-speed train tickets in China are typically released 15-30 days before the travel date via the official 12306 system. While platforms like Trip.com offer booking services, they may have different release windows or availability displays. Prices for high-speed rail generally remain stable, increasing only slightly for specific holidays or peak demand periods, but are not subject to the rapid fluctuations seen in airfare. Booking closer to the sales opening date is often best for popular routes. If Trip.com shows low availability, check the official 12306 website/app or WeChat mini-programs. If tickets are scarce, consider alternative travel methods or booking through local agents upon arrival, though this is less reliable.

When booking train tickets on Trip.com, child fare refunds are processed in two stages; a small amount first, followed by the main refund within hours or days. Full 50% child discounts apply to children under 12 years old (e.g., 11 years and 364 days). For children aged 12 and over, the discount is significantly smaller, usually around 100 RUB. If the Trip.com bot is unhelpful, typing 'оператор' (operator) into the chat can connect you to a human support agent.

Train tickets in China open for sale 14 days before departure. Third-party booking services may not guarantee specific seat selection or adjacent seats if demand is high. It is recommended to purchase directly via official channels (12306) or wait for the start of official sales to ensure seat preferences.
